「百の季を経ても色褪せず」
半世紀近く絵を描き続けるなかで、数えきれない作家と作品が現れ、そして消えていくのを見てきました。そのなかで強く感じたのは、「新しいもの」ではなく「古くならないもの」を作りたいという思いです。
選んだ手法は、700年以上の歴史を持つ沖縄紅型染め。題材は、何千年も姿の変わらない鳥や動物、そして伝承に生きる生き物たち。彼らに翼を与えることで、時代を超えてどこまでも飛んでいけると信じています。
親が愛し、子が愛し、時の流れに洗われても色褪せない。百の季を越えても変わらずに愛される命を、この連作に込めました。
"Unfading Through a Hundred Seasons"
Over nearly half a century of creating art, I have watched countless artists and works appear — and disappear. Through it all, one thought grew stronger: I did not want to chase what is new. I wanted to create what never grows old.
The method I chose is Okinawan Bingata — a dyeing tradition spanning more than 700 years. The subjects are birds, animals, and mythical creatures whose forms have remained unchanged for thousands of years. By giving them wings, I believe they can fly beyond the boundaries of any era.
Loved by parents, loved by children, untouched by the passage of time. This series, Hyakuki, is my offering of lives that endure across a hundred seasons.
